Often people owning websites receive unwanted incoming links which quite frankly can be really annoying. Some of us may try to get in touch with the senders via emails requesting them to remove the link and if they are generous enough they may accept our request. However if a person is getting rewarded to do that he may not be so understanding and polite and will not eliminate the URL or link. Thus you are just left with one alternative and that is to be contingent on the kindness of the webmaster of the website that is sending you those inward links.

For this reason, it is important for us to have knowledge about the working of negative SEOs. When deciding the ranking of websites, Google and other similar search engines take into consideration a number of factors necessary to decide a websites’ worth. One of the crucial aspects is the superiority of the website you are getting inward links from. In case those websites are of low superiority and have a lower ranking, then the search engines will consider your own website to be less worthy as well and will inevitably drag your website down. This tactic is used by websites that may have hired a digital marketing company in order to try and pull down their competing websites. This phenomenon is known as Negative SEO

However, the state is about to transform as Google has come up with a new tool for the webmasters known as the “Disavow Tool”. The main advantage of the Disavow tool is that is enables the webmaster to report to Google about the unsolicited inbound links. In this way, Google will not take those links into deliberation when deciding the ranking of your website. Thus, the Disavow Tool eradicates the necessity to hinge on to the notions of other webmasters. All you need to do is report those undesirable links to Google and watch it do the rest of the work. Even though Google may not be able to eradicate those links entirely, those incoming links will be completely disregarded and thus become valueless. They will merely cease to disturb your rank in the game.

Many digital marketing company consider Negative SEO as one of the most significant strategies to increase their ranking in leading search engines. However since the development of the Disavow Tool, the use of this approach has diminished. Previously Google used to send notices via mail if it found unusual or paid links, instructing the webmasters to remove each and every one of those malicious incoming links. This even helps the website to get affirmative responses from web users.

However, Google is not making this tool available to those people who simply want to inverse the effects of lowly qualified link building practices; they have made it crystal clear that the disavow tool cannot be used until all possible tactics and strategies are tried. In simpler words, this tool should be the ‘last resort’.  The owners of the websites must try to eliminate the incoming links themselves first, since it has already been stated that the records are necessary when using this tool and proof of efforts made to get rid of the infuriating links must be seen. Thus, only when Google can see that the webmaster has tried hard to remove the links that it will grant the appeal for this tool to be carried out.

The disavow tool should be used in the right situation by the right people. The best option is to let Google segregate good links from the bad ones. If you exercise decent SEO at all times, such malicious links will cease to bother you.
