easy blogging, do blogging not to earn but to learn
Blogs have been around for several years and have become almost a staple of the internet.  Perhaps you have a blog.  Perhaps you have been told that the key to riches beyond your wildest dreams lies in affiliate marketing or eCommerce blogs.  As a result of the marketing vomit that is splogging, the internet is clogged with ridiculous websites designed purely to make money by attracting eyeballs
.

Well, what about the rest of the content creating world?  How do you write a blog people will actually want to read?  The answer is simpler than you might think, other than hiring an SEO for small business companies to build traffic.  The following are helpful tips to assist you in maintaining a web log that will engage visitors.

  • Write About Things You are Passionate About
Before you say it, “I am passionate about making money with this blog” is not a valid passion.  That’s not what we’re talking about here.  If you are passionate about a subject, your passion comes through in the way you write.  Readers can easily spot the difference in forced content for content’s sake and something written from the passion and love of the writer.

Think of your blog as a visible extension of your mouth.  When you talk about your favorite things, your voice is altered, you are more animated, and you can generally talk in greater quantity than a subject with which you have limited knowledge or passion.  It’s also easier to come up with things to say when they are coming from you and not a perceived need to write “something” just to take up space.
  • Add to the Conversation
Those persons who wish to earn a PhD understand that in order to receive the honor, they must be able to contribute original substance to their field of study.  Novelty for novelty’s sake won’t work.  It has to be a relevant addition to the field.

Blogging is really not that different, sans the thousands of dollars tuition and attachment to an institution.  Your blog needs to add to the conversation of the field in which you are writing.  Engage what is being said or has been said elsewhere.  Share in the conversation and then add to it.  If you can do this, you will attract not only readers, but also a community of people passionate about the same things you are.
  • Write Well
You do not need to be a grammarian to write a good blog, but you do need to strive for good grammar and, above all, content relevance.  Resist every urge to fill your blog posts and pages with keywords and buzz if they are not part of your normal flow of writing and conversation.  They will stick out like sore thumbs and flag you quickly as someone interested only in traffic and not communication.

Google will not see you as relevant either so don’t waste your time.  Now, that being said, it does not hurt to use industry specific or topic specific vocabulary, so long as it is natural and fits with ease.  A best practice is to insert yourself in the position of your intended reader.  Would your reader understand easily what you are writing?  Would they enjoy it?

  • Write Consistently
One of the most common mistakes bloggers make is to be inconsistent with their blogging.  The most relevant blogs are those who add to their content at a regular interval.  Plugging in 10 posts on one day and then nothing for 2 weeks isn’t going to help you.  Pick a pattern of posting and stick with it.  If you can only post once per week, so be it.  Just don’t miss that weekly post.

When your readers see your pattern they will adopt a visiting pattern to match.  Search engines, likewise, will know when to update their index of your site.  Another best practice for writing is to keep a running list of post ideas that you can pull from at a moment’s notice.  You may find that your frequency increases over time, especially the more you are able to interact with other sites and events.  Scheduling time to post will also help you.
Conclusion
Blogging should be enjoyable for both the writer and the reader.  If it becomes a burden to write, your visitors will know it and they will leave.  Write often and well.  Engage your visitors and add to the global discussion in those subjects you love.  When you can do that, you’ll find that your readership will grow and your network will expand.  You might even have more fun.  Happy blogging.
